Summer Concert: Blue Skies

Summer Concert: Blue Skies

Come out for a free summer concert on the green Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Thursday, August 8th is Blue Skies Big Band!

Blue Skies Big Band is a 19 piece swing orchestra featuring both male and female vocalists, a full horn section and a full saxophone section to boot. The musicians of Blue Skies Big Band have been playing in the area for years, many with more than 25 years of personal experience!

Players have studied and performed music at the Universities of Connecticut and Massachusetts, Eastern Connecticut State University, and Westfield State University among others. These musicians have performed at the Eastern States Exposition, with regional community bands, in major parades and with pit orchestras for area theater groups. They have also played at countless other local venues. Several brass players were invited to backup The Temptations at The Calvin Theater.

Blue Skies Big Band captures the energy and optimism that was the hallmark of swing music during its’ heyday. Picture war bonds and “Rosie the Riveter” and the fantastic sounds of notables like Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman. The band also features songs from more contemporary artist like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin, right up to today’s favorites, Harry Connick Jr, and Michael Buble.

Come out for dinner at one of our local Windsor restaurants and then enjoy a concert on the green now through August 29th! Summer Concerts are a location in the e-Passport contest, too!
