Support the plight of pollinators – especially monarch butterflies!
Planters have pollinator-friendly plants & Butterfly Weed -Milkweed- the only host plant for the Monarch. If you see an eaten stalk in the planter, you’ll know that a Monarch has made a home! Pictures of planters will be uploaded here and on our Facebook page by July 9.
Auction: Starting bid $50. $5 increments. Planters must be picked up by July 23rd. Payment and pick up through First Town Downtown info@FirstTownDowntown.org
Monies will be used to support FTDT, to bring awareness to the plight of the Monarch butterfly, and to maintain the 2 monarch garden habitats on the Riverwalk trail.
Designers, artisans, and local gardening enthusiasts will be crafting butterfly-friendly planters from a variety of unusual items.
The Upcycled Planter Challenge kicks off on July 9th with our Windsor Monarch Festival where we'll have an Eco-Friendly Artisan Market on the town green, and lots of activities around the center including an Electric Vehicle and Electric Bicycle showcase, Children's Pollinator Parade, Chairy Orchard, Rock Painting, Crafts and activities as well as a paint party by Irene’s Traveling Paint Parties, and lots more!
July 9 - 22, vote online for your favorite planter on our Facebook page! The designer with the most ‘likes’ will receive a prize! You’ll also have the unique opportunity to take one of these artistic, one-of-a-kind planters home by bidding for it in the online auction on Facebook! Voting and auction will be found on the First Town Downtown Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/firsttowndowntown).
