Victor Manuel Sterling-Duprey (Papo) was born and raised out of a musical family in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

His father, uncles and aunts sung and danced to the tunes of Arsenio Rodriguez, Septeto Nacional, Ignacio Pi ero, Beny More, Vicentico Valdez, Maria Teresa Vera, Acerina y su Danzonera, Chano Pozo y Conjunto Azul, Cortijo y su Combo, Noro Morales, Moncho Le a, Canario, Matancera, Cheo Belen Puigh, Jorrin, Aragon, Mario, Machito and The AfroCubans Miguelito Valdez, Giraldo Rodriguez, and too many to mention here!

On the Jazz Side, Armstrong, Errol Gardner, Art Tatum, Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holiday, Coltrane , Parker, Monk, Ellington, Nat "King" Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, list goes on..
