Become a volunteer at Windsor Historical Society!
Are you a “people” person with some time on your hands? Do you love history and think you might like to give tours to visitors from out of town and/or schoolchildren? Then Windsor Historical Society is looking for you! Come to three training sessions for volunteer guides and educators on consecutive Tuesdays starting on September 20 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and learn more about Windsor Historical Society and Windsor’s long and fascinating history.

•Session 1, September 20: Introduction to the Society: Explore our library, Windsor history galleries, and Palisado Green, the heart of historic Windsor.

•Session 2, September 27: Guiding in the Strong-Howard House. Find out why people love this house and see for yourself why it has won local, state, and national awards.

•Session 3: October 4: Dr. Hezekiah Chaffee’s House and Windsor Historical Society’s Educational trunks and programs. Learn more about this doctor, his medical practice, the enslaved African-Americans who kept the household running, and the Society’s education programs on Colonial and Native American Life and, the American Revolution.

We will provide you with training materials and set you up with delightful and informed veteran guides and educators to shadow until you feel comfortable giving tours on your own. Other volunteering opportunities at the Society include baking, organizing, media troubleshooting, and cleanup for public programs and events, posting flyers around town, and work in the library and on our grounds. To get more information and to reserve your spot, please call 860-688-3813 or e-mail Education and Outreach Manager John Mooney at jmooney@windsorhistoricalsociety.org.
