From Memory to Memoir: Writing your life story at Windsor Historical Society
Remember listening to your parents and grandparents tell fascinating stories of their childhoods? Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if they had written some of those stories down? Our own stories are memorable too. Susan Omilian is a published fiction and non-fiction writer who has been encouraging and guiding budding memoir writers for many years. On six Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., starting on October 11, Omilian will help you to access your creativity and develop a writing regimen that is both rewarding and fun in the comfortable setting of Windsor Historical Society’s research library.

Unlike an editor who checks your work after you have completed it, Susan Omilian is with you when you start writing and continues working with you throughout the course. She will read and listen to what you have written, then help you with content, structure, or emotional impact of your writing in a constructive, positive way. You’ll learn where to start, how to get organized and keep going until your finish, receiving tips on pictures and documents to include and how to self-publish your story. No previous writing experience is required. The group size is limited to twelve people, to provide a safe and comfortable place to share writings and receive individualized advice. New and returning memoir writers are welcome.

Omilian's From Memory to Memoir:  Writing Your Life Story course begins with Why You Want to Write Your Life Story and Quieting Your Inner Critic on Tuesday, October 11 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sessions follow on October 18 (Mining a Childhood Memory for the Jewels, Working with Memories), October 25 (Focusing on Defining Moments), November 1 (Deciding Theme and Structure for your Life Story), November 8 (Using Pictures, Documents and the Rest), and November 15 (Editing your Memoir, Preparing it for Publication, Tips on Self Publishing). The cost for this six-session course is $75. We need six people to run this class, so reserve your spot now.  For more information, contact the Society at 860/688-3813 or online at www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org.
