Artifacts of Freedom: 250 Years of Windsor's Military History
Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. military, Windsor Historical Society will present Artifacts of Freedom: 250 Years of Windsor’s Military History, a program celebrating Windsor’s veterans and their service. This program is part of Windsor Historical Society’s WindsorCT250 commemoration activities, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Guests will have the rare opportunity to view highlights from the Society’s extensive military collection, including artifacts that are not typically on public display. These remarkable pieces span from the American Revolution through the 1950s and reveal the personal stories of Windsor residents who served our country. Powder horns from the Revolutionary War, World War I recruitment posters, and a 1950s Air Force uniform are just a few of the items that will be shared.

Community members are encouraged to bring their own history into the conversation. Anyone wishing to share memorabilia from their own or a family member’s military service is welcome to participate. To arrange to share an artifact, please contact curator Kristen Wands at kwands@windsorhistoricalsociety.org or 860-688-3813. Please note that firearms or explosive devices cannot be accepted.

The program will take place at Windsor Historical Society, 96 Palisado Avenue, Windsor, Connecticut. Admission is $10, and veterans are invited to attend free of charge. Pre-registration is encouraged. To reserve a spot or for more information, visit WindsorHistoricalSociety.org or email info@windsorhistoricalsociety.org.
