Freedom Trail Committee Food Drive
The Windsor Freedom Trail Committee and the Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church Missionary Society are coordinating a Food Drive to benefit the Windsor Food Bank.

It will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10:00am – 2:00pm. at Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 320 Hayden Station Road, Windsor, CT.

The Town’s Social Services Coordinator Ms. Jasmine Hall indicated that as of June 2025, the Social Services Department has been supporting over 600 households, which is approximately an increase of 20% over previous years.

Ms. Hall further explained that there are several factors that contribute to this increase in need during the summer including the following:

-There is an increase in the need for family resources while kids are out of school for the summer.

-Food donations during the summer months are typically lower than the flow of donations that come in during the fall and winter holiday seasons.

– Kids that are in summer camps may need to bring their own lunches and snacks.

-The Weekend Wheels Student Food Program, a supplemental food program that provides eligible Windsor kids from pre-k through 12th grade with a bag of food for the weekend only runs during the school year from September – June. The Food Bank provides an additional food distribution for these children during summer months when the program is inactive.

-The Community Renewal Team (CRT) and Operation Fuel Energy Program, which provide assistance with electric, gas, and water bills, is closed from May – August. As a result, eligible families may face the challenge of choosing to pay higher utility bills or buying groceries during the summer months. In these circumstances, the Food Bank serves as a valuable resource.

Recognizing the increase in these summer food donation needs, the Windsor Freedom Trail Committee and Archer Church’s Missionary Society decided to team up and organize a Food Drive to support the community’s needs at this critical time.

Please consider supporting this initiative by dropping off non-perishable, unexpired food donations during the 10:00am – 2:00pm timeframe on July 19th at the church (address listed above) to benefit the Windsor Food Bank. These donations will be very much appreciated.

Most needed items include the following but other items are also welcomed: peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, ramen noodles, canned or cartons of broth, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, cereal (cold and hot), baked beans, canned vegetables (corn, mixed vegetables, peas, potatoes, yams, beets, green beans, etc.), canned beans (kidney, garbanzo, white, black, pinto, etc.), rice (box or bag), pasta, sauces, canned fruit (or fruit/pudding cups), fruit juice, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.), mashed potato flakes (box or package), stuffing (bag or box), hamburger/tuna helpers (box), baking items (corn muffin mix, cakes, brownies, oil, etc.) coffee, tea, hot chocolate, snacks.
