| | | On Saturday, September 6 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., Windsor Historical Society (WHS) will present “Wandering Windsor: Built by Bricks,” a guided walking tour that explores the history and impact of Windsor’s once-thriving brickmaking industry. “Windsor is a town built by bricks—both literally and metaphorically,” said Heather Lodge, WHS Program Manager. “Thanks to the high concentration of clay in our soil, Windsor was the perfect place for the brick industry to flourish. The town’s economy and landscape were shaped by millions of handmade blocks.” With over 40 brickyards, the brickyards were an economic rock for the town. They provided many Windsor residents with their first job and provided the building materials for homes and Harvard alike. The “Built by Bricks” tour will guide participants through the origins of Windsor’s brickmaking history, including a walk through the former Mack Brick Yard and a look at some of downtown’s most iconic brick buildings. The 1.5-mile loop will begin and end at the Broad Street Green, in front of the post office. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and WHS members, and $6 for children. Preregistration required. The tour will take place rain or shine. Comfortable shoes recommended. For tickets or more information, visit www.WindsorHistoricalSociety.org or email info@windsorhistoricalsociety.org.
